Hello.

I've been looking at some different used graphic cards and found a few that is in my price range. Basically wondering which one I should buy.

GTX 1060 6GB Dual - 173$
MSI Radeon RX 480 8GB Gaming X - 115$
Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Pulse 8GB - 173$
MSI Radeon R9 290X - 127$

Thank you

All are comparable in performance.
I like the GTX1060 because it will generally need less power and run cooler.

Do not use the vram spec as a selection criteria, vram is used differently in nvidia and amd drivers.
I own both , the 1060 6GB is a great value , I have had trouble with all 3 of my Sapphire Nitro+ 580's.
I would pick the 1060 , for sure. Less power hungry and similar performance of a 580.

Thank you both. I did some reading and people are saying that the 580 ages better and are generally more positive to the 580. Might be AMD fanboys commenting on all the youtube videos, but made me really unsure

Go to newegg and look at the reviews from verified buyers for your particular candidates.
I took the most frequently reviewed cards of each for comparison.

The msi GTX1060 had some 309 reviews of which 3% were negative with only one or two eggs.

The XFX rx580 had 111 reviews of which 25% were negative .

I am surprised, considering the apparent popularity of the RX580.

That's a terrible way to do a comparison. You're comparing two random cards where the brands and models don't even match up to the ones they are looking at. Looking at Newegg reviews for the actual cards listed here (or similar versions at least, based on the limited information available), the number of negative reviews (1 or 2 star) appear to be 15% for that Asus GTX 1060 vs 11% for that Sapphire RX 580, which doesn't line up with your findings for those unrelated cards at all...

Asus GTX 1060 6GB Dual:

Sapphire RX 580 8GB Pulse:

Honestly though, I wouldn't pay significantly more for the RX 580, since their overall performance should be rather similar. Also, if these are US prices, I certainly wouldn't pay $173 for a used RX 580, since you can buy them new for not much more than that, some even bundled with downloads for two new game releases...

I admit to being a bit lazy and not looking at the particular sapphire pulse rx580 card which had some 11% negative.

However the particular GX1060 was not identified so I picked the most reviewed unit for comparison.

As said above, performance should be similar for all of them, meaning that given those prices I'd say the RX 480 is best value for money. It does use a bit more power than the 1060, but unless electricity is very expensive or you have a marginal PSU that's just good enough to handle a 1060, I wouldn't worry about it.

Oops, there was a typo. Both the 1060 and rx 580 are 173$. The prices are exchange rate from NOK to USD. A brand new rx 580 is ~283$ and 1060 is ~312$ here in Norway.
