So the 480 has now been released and there's been tons of benchmarks. I myself was kinda disappointed because so many people overhyped the card. They had my expectations at 980 level. But turns out it's basically a cheaper 970. Don't get me wrong that's great because it performs similarly to the 970 at a way cheaper price. But I was kinda expecting a little more. I was hoping it would be at least a little better than the 970. So now the question remains, WHEN WILL THE 1070 PRICES DROP? Or is it worth buying the msi gtx 980 4gb for $319?

show me one for less than 200 quid & Ill agree wholeheartedly with you

at the minute youve got the r7 370 at the 750ti pricepoint
the 380 2gb at the gtx 950 pricepoint
the 380 4gb at the gtx 960 2gb pricepoint
the rx 480 at the gtx 960 4gb pricepoint.

so yes ,really I do think so.(this is uk only though)

Wait for the 1060 and the real battle begins.

I wonder if custom cooled GPUs will have 4gb and 8gb versions? If the 8gb reference is £220 then we are looking at about £250 for the card? If it has zero fan mode up to a temp and better performance than the reference card I will consider it. But push the price up any more towards 270-275 and I would rather spend an extra £130 and get a 1070.

Indeed it does mate ,I agree completely - I expect similar performance.
The is no fanboyism my end,I own both nvidia & amd cards myself - AMD have 6 weeks to make as many sales as possible & in all fairness good luck to them.

Nvidia pushing forwards the release of the 1060 & maybe even tinkering with the chipset for a little more performance can only be good for us as the consumer.

Nvidia cards though have a history of haing a pretty much 1 dollar to 1 uk pound ratio when it comes to release prices - the amd pricepoint is what impresses me in the uk more than the actual card itself.

the wierd thing is that on release the 3rd party twin fan cards actually undercut the reference cards pricewise when it comes to nvidia, with amd its always the other way around.

Im told by someone in the know that the powercolor devil is going to be the card to watch out for on a bang to buck basis.

I think it looks pretty decent right now.

What's on the market today, is a bare-bones reference card that's pretty much the equal of the 970, performance wise, and substantially cheaper. It's better on sum tests, and worse on others. Imo, the deciding factor will be what the associate manufacture release in the next few weeks. factory overclocked cards with better cooling could make a big difference.

I think some reviews are biased like toms using an 970 with over 10% overclock these guys have the 480 beating the 970 in everything other than 1080 tomb raider (wins at 1440) http://www.techspot.com/review/1198-amd-radeon-rx-480/ and being about exactly between the 970 & 980 on average, which is where I think it should be and if its real its a great card for the money.

Yeah true.

Decent for what it is. Will be good for people with 960 or 380 that thinking on upgrading but did not want to spend beyond $250.

Other than that i just hope people stop overhyping things when amd about to launch new gpu. This is worse than what happen to R9 285.

I guess I had my hype set a bit to high 😀 Was hoping the Rx480 would surpass the gtx 970 and be at the same level as 980 but it wasnt intended I understand. Tho this makes me scratch my head, thinking if it's still a good compromise or not, knowing that the GTXs will drop in price and I'm in europe, the cards are more expensive -.- I'm upgrading my R7 250x, also have a Fx-6300 cpu. Any sugestions?

It depends on how many time are you willing to wait and also your budget.

Dang I feel bad for you because of them prices!

Well I'm going to my home country in August where I intend to buy. it's Portugal, a bit cheaper 😀 So I still have 1 whole month to decide. As for my budget, I kinda dont want to blow more than 250/300€ on the GPU, I also wante dto upgrade my 60hz vga monitor, probably to a 120/144hz, but still deciding on that considering the cost 😀

I wouldn't go lower than a 1070 for a 144Hz monitor if you want a future proof GPU, consider that in the budget plus the monitor price.

Yeah thats why I'm still deciding if or not to get a 120/144hz monitor. My goal is to play at 1080p 60fps (graphs maxed out hopefully), the Rx480 should be enough for it so a 60hz monitor is fine, however over 60 fps and my monitor will be the "limit". I'll upgrade the monitor nevertheless, if not a 120/144hz to a good 50-75hz HDMI.

As for the 1070, it costs around 500-530€, even if it drops 100€ which I doubt, it's still out of my budget without the monitor, and I would be obliged to buy a 144hz monitor, having a 1070 to play on a vga 60hz would be a bit stupid 😀

It's MSI--------need more be said?? Personally, I've never been comfortable with their QC----------every MSI card I've ever purchased has had to be returned at least once!! For them let it be said-----------they DO stand by their product and warranties--without question or issue.

Sadly the price just went bAck up 🙁

It always amazes me how often people ask the prices drop question. You really think anyone here knows? If they did they'd be using that ability on lottery numbers. The prices will drop when market forces demand they drop- when no-one buys it, when everyone has bought it, or that better and cheaper one has been released.

I guess you were one of those people that took that question seriously.
