I understand that the GPU is a little bit of a overkill but I do plan on upgrading to a 4k monitor in the future.

if you were looking at the z97A, and assuming you researched it to pick that one, maybe the z170A would be good?

not sure, havnet looked into motherboards that much past the MSI Krait cuase I like the colors 😀
 


I was going to put the Krait in my build but some people told me it wasnt all that good of a MOBO
 


Probably not. DDR4 is still more expensive than DDR3, so are Z170 motherboard over Z97. Your initial build is great. I would swap the SSD for a crucial MX200 and the PSU for a 850W XFX (if you ever wish to add another card in SLI).
