What does connecting Kombustor to Afterburner do?

I have begun overclocking my MSI Gaming 4G GTX 970 GPU. I am following a the 2015 Safe Overclocking Guide on this site. In MSI Kombustor, there is an option for connecting to MSI Afterburner. What does this do?

You can run Kombustor directly from afterburner to test your settings. Basically just saves you the trouble of opening two apps

Mouse over the "K" button on the left of your card info in afterburner
