You can get different types of memory (RAM)

For example, DDR, DDR2, DDR3, obviously this supports DDR3, the 1866 is just the speed of the RAM, I think the standard default of which RAM comes is @ 1600 (MHz), this supports RAM up to 1866MHz which is faster than the standard 1600MHz.

It's backwards compatible ofcourse, so there's no problem with having anything under 1866MHz RAM
