What drives will be used if multiple drives have similar information?

Lets say you have two drives, 1 SSD and a HDD, and Microsoft Word is installed on the SSD and every time you save a file you save it to the HDD what drive will be used when accessing the file. The HDD holds the file but the SSD holds the software to use it, will both drives be used in a situation like this?
