What else should I upgrade?

Hi, hopefully all you nice people can help me out some.

In early September I will have some extra money laying around that will give me the perfect amount and time to upgrade my PC.

I was wondering if you can help me by recommending what I should upgrade as I already have a gaming PC but it is back from 2012 and only upgraded once, thank you!

Graphics card: I currently have a GTX 760. I plan to upgrade to a GTX 1070.. good or bad?

Ram: 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3/1333MHz Dual Channel Memory, I plan to buy another 8GB of ram, a total of 16gb ram should be plenty, or no?

MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H Intel Z77 Chipset DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ IRST, Lucid Virtu MVP, Ultra Durable4 Classic, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, 2x Gen3 PCIe x16, 3x PCIe x1 & 2 PCI, should I get a new motherboard, or do u believe this should be fine for when I add the new graphics card?

POWERSUPPLY: 700 Watts - Standard Power Supply - SLI/CrossFireX Ready, should be fine, correct?

Intel® Core™ i7-3770K Performance Tuning Protection, this should be fine correct?

HDD: 2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD [+0] (Single Drive), I will be buying. SSD with my new graphics card, I need one ASAP.

Corsair Hydro Series H60 High Performance Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan (Single Standard 120MM Fan), should be fine with the i7.. I think.

Cooler Master Storm Trooper Full Tower Gaming Case w/ 200mm Fan, should be fine with the new upgrades? Though this is one BIG case.

So basically I'm asking which parts to upgrade and which parts are still useable and fine. From what I understand the processor, power supply, case, and motherboard are ok to use but the graphics card, ram, and HDD need a upgrade? Also any recommendations for any of these parts that you think are best and will help? Also is getting the founders edition worth it for the new graphics cards?

If I do get a new case that works with the original and new parts would it be hard to transfer everything?

Thank you for your help, and I'm very sorry for the trouble of my questions!

What is the brand and model of the power supply?

Video card is a good upgrade, you can even get the 1060 to save some money if you want as that card is almost 2x the speed of the 760 you have now.

RAM, is iffy but won't hurt, and it not too much money. Just make sure you get another pair of 4 GB sticks and not a single 8 GB stick.

SSD, but you are already planning on getting one, so all good there.

Don't worry about CPU/Case/Motherboard.

Ah ok. I don't mind spending the extra money on the better graphics card if its truly better and my pc can handle it. Sweet, ill make sure to pick up the correct 2 4gb sticks, thank you!

Sadly I have no idea what brand and model my power supply is. It is most likely some cheap branded one as I originally bought my pc from CyberPowerPC when I was young and had no clue about things. Know I do.. but if its super important that you think I should check and look into it, I can go, and undo the side of my pc and find out real quick. All I basically know about it is that it is 700 watts and SLI/CrossfireX ready.

Also question, is the founders edition worth it for the graphics card?

Thank you very much for your help so far!

Hi, I opened my pc up, and found what the power supply was. 700 watt Extreme gear XG-H700. Hopefully that is good enough for the GTX 1070, and which GTX 1070 do you think would be best to pick up?

Thank you very much for your help!

With your CPU, the 1070 is OK, but you should replace that power supply. It's not so much the wattage as the quality. I'd spend $80 on a better power supply before putting in a new video card.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151136 this is about as good of a PSU you can get for the price and will run a 1070 with no issues. You can get PSUs $20 cheaper that are still good, but not great, if you want to maximize your system life span, a top tier PSU is one of the best things you can get.

This is OK also, more power, and good to very good quality, just a tier bellow the other one I linked http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16817438025

Awesome, thank you so much! Ill definitely be looking at the new PSU. Out of curiosity, why do you think the current one I have is bad or only good? Because of its age? Or is there another factor in it?

Also which type of 1070 is the best one to pick up? I know theirs like 3-4 different brands of 1070 graphic cards.

Edit: Ill 100% be buying a new PSU, any good 700watt PSU that are decent priced, and good? The first one you linked is 550 watt and I always like having extra room on my PC for power, etc. Though the second one you linked looks very good! Im hopeing to have a similar one as the current one I have and be silent. For a new PSU, does it need to be SLI/CossfireX ready like the PSU I have currently?

Thank you so much for your helps so far!

It's just poor quality PSU to begin with, cheap components, poor construction, not a lot of protection from spikes, etc..

Even with a 1070 card you are OK with the 550 watt PSU, but if you would feel better with a higher wattage one, the second one I linked is also a good model and the same price. If you want to pick your own PSU, you can pretty safely look at the price per watt. For a top tier PSU you are looking at $100 for about a 650-750 watt unit. For second tier, about $70-80. But you also want to look up reviews since some lower quality models end up being priced like the good ones. Not to say that a $50 750 watt PSU would be horrible or will burn down your computer, just the chances of it running properly for longer are less.

This one has a rebate and is 650 watt, would be a Tier 1 unit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2F84BD0571 Don't worry about SLI compatible listings, that is mostly marketing talk.

About what model card to get, I am not very familiar with them, but there are no clearly bad models out there now. You can pick one based on price and warranty maybe. The longer the warranty the better off you are of-course.

Thank you, thank you! Your help has been so amazing, and so very helpful! Your awesome.

Thank you again and which PSU do you think would be best? The EVGA cheaper Bronze 750watt PSU for $70 or the EVGA Gold 650watt PSU for $100? It seems both have great reviews and if it works for replacing my old build and to help the 1070, then I will get one of these 2.

Thank you again for your help, you've been amazing and so helpful to me!
