I opted to download the streaming assets in fortnite and I'm just wondering what the point of it is. It seems like it's reduced stuttering on my system, but I'm not sure about others. Fortnite seems to stutter a lot even on high end systems.

Which/what "streaming assets" were downloaded and what are the expectations/benefits regarding each asset?

Source site for those downloads?

Did you install all at once? Changing more than one thing at a time makes troubleshooting difficult.

There should be some text or posting for each asset explaining its purpose, installation requirements, how to install, and related configuration settings, etc..

Go back a step or two and use the available Windows tools (Task Manager, Resource Monitor, Process Explorer) to look for what happens (or stops happening) when the stutters occur.

Not sure, just checked the box in the epic games launcher to download streaming assets. I‘m assuming lots of textures because it added 48GB to the download.

And what did 48GB more do to available drive space?

Also very likely that that 48GB contained more than "lots of textures".

What more? I have no idea.

Never download something unless 1) there is a specific purpose for doing so and 2) you know exactly what the download contains.

Even if you do know on both counts - is your system backed up at least 2 x to other locations? Plus the backups are proven recoverable and readable.

No more "just checked the box". Not a good practice - anywhere.

Not much. I have over 1.5TB free.

agreed, but I know this was perfectly safe. Here’s a reddit thread discussing it. https://www.reddit.com/r/FortNiteBR/comments/13jy08f/option_to_download_all_cosmetic_textures_added/
looks like it just improves network performance and apparently it’s also better if you have a hard drive.

"looks like it just improves network performance and apparently it’s also better if you have a hard drive."

And what evidence, if any, is presented or cited via reddit (or elsewhere) to support either claim?

Not sure that I can envision "also better if you have a hard drive".

You must be more skeptical.

Reading through the various comments/discussion did not give me much confidence in some "value added".

However, I do not play the game so must defer to those who do play and who have download, installed, and played using the "streaming assets".

As far as network performance, I can attest to that. I would have network issues in Fortnite all the time, but I’ve had none since. as far as hard drive improvements, I can’t say, as I have an SSD, and have never noticed any issues with storage.
