I recently came across a cool Sony widescreen 17.1" LCD monitor at a local and an out of town circuit city. The thing has a 500:1 contrast ratio, 22ms response time, and 460 nits of brightness which is 2 times the brightness of all other LCDs out there. Only problem is that the native resolution is 1280x768 which is a kinda odd resolution.

Im still holding off on the decsision if I should purchase it or not since it could potentially not support any kind of games out there. What good is a monitor if no games can be run on its default res? SO my question is are there any games out there which support this oddball resolution? And is it possible to force some games to run this odd resolution?

Good question. I was unable to find any info regarding the Sony. However I did find some info on a similar Samsung 1280x768 model, and it did not support 1280x768 when connected to the PC, only 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768. It is primarily supposed to be used as a television. The manual for the Samsung did not mention whether the PC image would be stretched to fit the entire screen, or if there would be black bars on either side of it. Either way, if the Sony model is similar in its function, the extra real estate you get with the widescreen would be pretty much wasted on the PC. Either the image would be distorted by stretching the pixels, or the extra pixels would simply be left unused, leaving you with a 4:3 picture on a 16:9 screen.
