What good are the USB 1.1 ports that are on some keyboards?

I have two different keyboards. They both have two usb ports that I can plug something in. I'd like to put a flash drive in one or use it to charge phone with a short cable. I get the "usb hub power exceeded" error. I understand they aren't a powered hub, but what use are they then? What can you actually plug in these and have it function?

Solution
Those ports are for USB mice, especially those laptop mice with really short cords.

USB 1.1 is too slow for a flash drive. 12Mbit/s is equivalent to one floppy disk per second which is ridiculously slow nowadays.

Hello, thank you for replying. Yes, I'm getting it with a flash drive. I haven't tried charging phone, but I doubt it would work. It was just an example of what I'd like to use it for. One is a Dell 0TH836 Y-UK-DEL1 USB Keyboard (TH836), and the other is a Logitech G15 Keyboard Model Y-UG75 P/N 867619-0403. It just seems like they are good for nothing. Why even put them on keyboards?
