So my dad needs me to build him a PC for his architecture firm. So he can give clients virtual tours of the buildings he made. I was thinking about getting a 1070 and i5-7600k for the PC but not sure if that can run the VR very smooth. What would be best specs for >1000$ for the CPU and GPU. Or would the 1070 and i5 be enough (i5 would prob be overclocked).

Solution

Both are good, but I think they are pricey. Beside these processor works on different MB, so you will need to buy a new MB.
If you have one you can get the i7-7700 which is cheaper and 4/8 threads.

Might be a good idea to ask what software will be used for the virtual tour, changes are its an Autodesk product which may have you looking at workstation video cards instead of mainstream gaming cards. A virtual tour may not be the same as what you are thinking of when you say VR

Hi,

I dont think 4/4 core/thread will be enough to have smooth VR experience. The GPU is good, but still will depend on what you softwares you will use and their requirements.

So I would suggest get CPU that gives you at least 8 threads + 1070 (or 1080).

Nvidia Quadro M4000 would work and if it is Autodesk SW conside a i7-6900K and a X99 chipset board, quad channel memory, full pci lanes
