Hi guys,

I am building a new gaming pc and I now I got everything except the GPU ( most important 😀 )
I got an i5 4670 k , 8 GB Ram and a 850 W PSU.
Now about the GPU I was planning to buy the GTX770 but now as I am reading reviews
R9 290 is better ( + more expensive) and 280x is similar to the GTX770.

Base on a budget lets say around 300-320 £ what you suggest?
I also heard about the GTX 800 series tha will come out in a few months do you think is worth the waiting?

PS*
*(I am not planning at least for the next few years to go SLI/crossfire and my monitor is not one of the best in class , however I am interested at some point to try a monitor with g-sync)

Thank you for your help!

Moreover, from what I have read a 2GB GPU is enough if I go 1080p for a single monitor right?

Then what company shall I go for?

Here I have some prices

GTX780 : MSI GeForce GTX 780 Lightning LE 3072MB @ £390
GTX780 : Assus, Inno3D @ £420

GTX770: Inno3D GeForce GTX 770 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra 2048MB @ £270
GTX770: Asus GeForce GTX 770 DirectCU OC 2048MB @ £275
GTX770: VGA GeForce GTX 770 SC ACX Dual Bios 2048MB @ £275

R9 290 : MSI Radeon R9 290 "BF4 Edition" 4096MB @£342
R9 290x :Sapphire Radeon R9 290X "BF4 Edition" 4096MB @ £420 ->

So? what do u prefer based on these prices?
* Also I saw some reviews that the R9 290 + 290x are very noisy when temperature increases - is it still happening?

******** UPDATE*******

Asus GTX 770 Nvidia GeForce DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card (PCI Express 3.0, HDMI, DVI-I, DVI-D, Display Port, 256 Bit, 3D Vision Ready, GPU Boost 2.0)

I found this for 240£ where Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X "BF4 Edition" 4096MB is priced at 380£ + BF4

So now we speaking about 140£ difference.
Saving 140£ now I can go in the near feature SLI with 2 gtx770 however I prefer a single gpu for the moment
So?

Thanks a lot !!! :)

Thanks I will have a look again on the r9 290

Seeing that many retailers are discounting non reference 780s at around 490usd which would be around 290gbp, there would be no reason not to get a 780. As far as the 800 series GPU, if you wait its always a waiting game, because at that time something else will be around the corner as well. For 1080p gaming you will be fine with a 2gb 770 without problems, but if you do have the funds for a 780 I say get one. I've got a ghz edition from Gigabyte and out of the box it will trade blows with a 780ti, OCed even further it beats the 780ti.

Yeah and as i read you will crossfire/sli later, but 2gb of vram is 'just' enough for a gtx 770 on 1080p, but if you sli two of them, you'll need at least 3gb. For example a gtx 650 doesn't need 2gb because it would run out of processing power before it would use up the vram. Just as that you don't need 4gb for a gtx 770 because it won't use the vram. But when you go sli and nearly double the performance (170-190%) with 2gb you can go throw your second card out the window. That's when more vram can help A LOT.
I'm basically just saying that if you won't sli, get a 2gb. I you will, get a 4gb one :)

Thanks guys, I will waiting about a week to see what I will go for.

I ll probably go for a GTX770: Inno3D GeForce GTX 770 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra 2048MB @ £270

because if I want to move to a 780 its about 140 £ difference

The Sapphire Tri-x r9 290 looking good @ £380 however its out of stock and its a bit more than I am planning to pay.

From these three i would definitely go for the asus. Good design, reputable brand, good customer service. The DirectCU II cooler is just perfect. If you don't believe me, just go read some reviews 😉

So either I will stick to a Asus GeForce GTX 770 @ 275 either to a Sapphire Tri-x r9 290 @ 380

So does it worth a £105 more and a 1 week more wait for the AMD model?

In game I will benefit a lot from this so I can really say the difference? or I will be fine with the GTX770 and £100 less ?

Thanks

I'd say if you have the budget for r9 290 tri-x then you should go for one.
