HP Pavilion Desktop - 500-436na Specifications

You have a 180 watt power supply in that system which is not enough to run any discrete graphics card. It will need to be replaced. Given your processor, I stand by my original recommendation of the GTX 960 and a quality power supply:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card ($172.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($61.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $234.98

Your CPU is also dragging the performance down significantly.

First make sure your PSU can support a new graphics card.
An upgrade to a GTX 970 would require a minimum PSU wattage of 550W.
An upgrade to a R9 390 would require a minimum PSU wattage of 650W.

However a R9 380 would be a solid upgrade with a required PSU wattage of 550W.

However, a CPU upgrade would help greatly with performance on newer games.
An upgrade to a i5 6500 would be an excellent investment.

Yes. What graphics card you use depends almost entirely on what power supply you have (and also your upgrade budget). Typically, there is a sticker attached to the side of the power supply that tells what the manufacturer and model number of the power supply is as well as total wattage output. If your power supply does not have this information, I think it's safe to say it would need to be replaced.

Well, you didn't give what model your HP pavillion model is. But I checked a few model and they all using the same power supply. It only has 180W pure power supply. So in order to upgrade your pc, you have 2 choices:

1. Use original psu, but gpu were limited. Its cheap though
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750 Ti ZT-70605-10M 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready Plug-in Card Video Card
$100

2. Change your power supply and get a much better gpu. Well in this case, you forgot to mention your budget. But maximizing your 4 core amd cpu, i will recomended to get a R9-380 or a 280x. 380 would be more likely as your cpu might barely optimized the gpu.

XFX Radeon R9 380 R9-380P-2255 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Double Dissipation XXX OC Video Card
$190 ($170 if you can rebate)

For power supply, here is the best value
CORSAIR CX series CX600 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
$50 ($30 if you can claim rebate)

Total $240 ($200 if can claim rebate) but it will certainly transform your pc ability to run games.

Please pick as best answer if helps
