First of all, there are several EVGA models of the GTX 980 (Kingpin, classified, reference and more). Comparing the MSI to the normal non-reference EVGA, the MSI has better cooling compared to the EVGA which allows more head room for overclocking, while the MSI has three built in settings (OC, Gaming and silent) where OC will provide a higher clock speed compared to the EVGA but produce more heat and noice, while the gaming setting is a balance between a high clock speed and a decent temp and silent is to reduce the noise produced. all in all, i would go with the MSI unless you have more money and so you could go for the Kingpin EVGA or the Hybrid EVGA (which has a 120mm water cooler built onto it)
