What happens if I change my motherboard and CPU but keep everything the same?

I was wondering if I need to do anything after upgrading parts of my PC, the motherboard and processor. Will I need to re-install windows? What happens if I don't have the disc I used to install the first time or the 25 digit key to activate it? Thanks for your help.

Solution
You could make two partitions of your disc one with OS only and one with your data.
Then during the reinstall you can only format the partition with your OS.
Unless the new mobo and CPU are very similar to the previous ones I would advise to do a clean reinstall of windows because of potential driver conflicts.

The Disc is no problem I think you can download the ISO on the windows website and either burn a dvd or install with a usb drive.

The product key might be more problematic.
You can maybe try to contact Windows technical service if you have any proof of purchase.

I believe that windows stays on the hard drive and the motherboard and cpu are just components that are needed for a PC to work. I'm almost positive that windows will still be on your drive but wait til some of the higher-up fellas on here answer before you make decisions

Ye, I'm changing from an ADM process to an intel one. So reinstall windows before changing them?
EDIT: I just found the original CD I had and the 25 digit key. So to clarify, all I need to do before changing is re-installing windows? I wouldn't be able to keep all my data?

But re-installing is the easier option if I don't have a way of backing up my files?
