What happens when a CPU is pressed down?

I was watching some tutorials for building my first gaming pc and all the youtubers say not to apply any pressure onto the cpu when you are putting it into the socket. I didn't apply pressure then but when I was installing my cooler, I pushed down on it to make it level because when I screwed down one side, the other popped up. Is there a chance that my computer may not boot because I pushed down on my cpu. What is the worst thing that could happen?

Yes if the pins are bent, they aren't making a good contact with the processor. Remove the processor and examine the pins for bent ones (use a magnifying glass). Some have reported good results using a credit card to straighten them.

But depending upon the manufacture of the processor, it can prevent the system from ever booting again.
