What if a game doesn't support my monitor's native resolution?

Say I have a 1440p monitor and I play a game from 2006-2012 that doesn't support 1440p. Am I screwed now and forced to do ugly downscaled 1080p?

You might be able to force it to 1440p by editing the settings file. Most games use a simple text file for settings with the vertical and horizontal resolution set there.

Of course this isn't guaranteed to work and you may have to run it downscaled regardless.
