What If I Use Power from Other PC, But Run Data Into Another PC's USB?

I want to see what is on an HDD, and clean it up.

I ordered a conversion kit that allows me to hook up SATA and IDE drives to a USB, and plug the USB into another computer.

The problem is that the drive power converter that comes with it blew out as soon as I plugged it in.

So I'm thinking I can take another PC, and run a power line into the HDD. At the same time run the IDE converter to USB into a whole other computer where I can view the files.

What is wrong with my plan?

Thanks

No idea.
But it looks like too many moving parts to me.
Simplify things. A USB dock WILL work.

Or maybe, the old IDE drive is simply dead.

No problem with that plan at all.

Good luck with the project

I was just looking at those.

Can you say why this system I have now is not working?

Power to HDD from PC #1
IDE connector from HDD to USB converter cord
USB adapter to PC #2
