what is a decent desktop for a budget conscious family? I am considering the dell inspirion one 2020 with 4gb ram for under 500. Is there any others in this price range that can give you more speed for your bucks? Not a gamer, just an everday cpu.

Do not buy an OEM PC, they have second rate parts mostly and they are overpriced... You can get the same retail parts and pay much less and know exactly what you are getting.

Gimme a few minutes and i will put something together at 500bucks.

OK the AMD one is the one I would choose, its more of an everyday PC that will game lightly and perform any menial task like browsing or office work well. It is also a quad-core instead of a duel like the Intel.

But the Intle is faster per core than the Intel so if you add a discreet graphics card it would game better, this is more of a workload orientated CPU.

The AMD also gives you a few more features like more SATA3 connectivity.

I have chosen a smaller case for you since you seem to be looking for something more compact.
I could explain to you all the reason why a self-built PC is better if you wish.

BOTH of these systems are ALOT better than the one you were looking at as you can see.Unfortunately neither has Windows included SOOOO if you want I can lesson the price so it includes windows bu I am sure you ahve an OS lying around.
