What is a good overclock for a GTX 460 1 Gig

Hey all,

This is my set-up:

EVGA GTX 460 1 Gb
Corsair 650W PSU
Corsair XMS3 4 Gig (1 stick)
AMD Phenom X4 965

I am currently overclocking the card to the factory spec's overclock:

Core Clock: 763
Shader Clock: 1526
Memory Clock: 1900

I've heard these GTX 460 cards are capable of good overclocking, so I am looking to get the most out of the card without risking any damage to the card. That's why I've been hesitant to just experiment.

If anyone owns this card or knows of this card, any wisdom would be appreciated.

They really do overclock well. Start off with MSI Afterburner, you should be able to easily reach 850MHz with a VCore of about 975mV. That card already has a 763MHz GPU clock, which isn't bad to start with. You can keep increasing the GPU clock as you like, in 10MHz increments, upping the VCore with 5mV increments as you see the card starts getting unstable. I've had my card run at 975MHz and 1050mV rock solid, but it idled a little high for me, so I dropped it till I reached a nice and quiet but still powerful OC, which is 850MHz and 975mV VCore. Works for me, I can play every game I want to (including Crysis 2 @ 1920x1080, "Advanced" graphics setting). I'm happy! 😀

yep, 850 to 900 MHz is typical for these cards.
Mine will do 850 MHz 24x7 on stock volts & cooler, with temp's barely above stock too.
I would start at 800 on your card and work upwards in 10 MHz increments are previously suggested and see what speed you can get from your card.

Shader will automatically go up to twice the core clock, as is recommended with the GTX460. I wouldn't recommend overclocking the memory clock at all, the memory has no heatsink or protection at all, and it will heat up VERY fast. You could easily risk popping your card if you push the memory clock to high, so do yourself a favour and don't!
