What is an aftermarket GPU?

I am looking for a new GPU and my cousin said to wait for the aftermarket radeon r9 cards because I was thinking about a 270. Are these the ones produced by MSI and asus and other manufacturers with different cooling and specs, because if so are they not already out (and if not when will they be?), Thanks.

Ok I don't like the idea of spending £202 but I can but as I mentioned before does anyone know where I could buy insurance for a card, I have hear of it sold in stores in America but not seen it on websites

if you don't like the price, then my earlier suggestion for a radeon hd 7870 still stands, except you get 2 years warranty.
by insurance do you mean extended warranty? i don't recommend that. always thought it was a way to milk more money out of customers.

Well if the card is going to die I would like it, yeah I think I do I mean if the card just dies again after a year of me doing nothing wrong with it I don't want to have to buy another one again

after a year of usage, you'd still have one more year left within the warranty period (if the warranty is for 2 years, check the terms and conditions), 2 more years if warranty is for 3 years. it's vendor dependent.
besides, if your damage incident is not covered under warranty, you might end up having to buy a new card instead of getting a replacement. even extended warranty won't cover that afaik.

look at the bottom of the page in the "warranty" section.
if you have specific question, you can just ask msi customer support.
your issue has to fall within msi's warranty terms and conditions.
