Hi all,

I am trying to use 4g Internet from my Android handset OnePlus One on to my windows 7 64 bit PC by setting Android phone Oneplus One as HotSpot and connecting to it using RealTek RTL8188CU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter.

the connection flow is like this.

MY PC ==> RealTek RTL8188CU ==> OnePlus One (as HotSpot) ==> 4G Internet.

========================================================================================================

When i check Internet speed using Ookla speed test app on my Mobile Phone i get this

--------------------------------

When i connect my Laptop to OnePlus One

MY Laptop ==> Internal WIFI adapter ==> OnePlus One (as HotSpot) ==> 4G Internet.

for internet and check internet speed i get

---------------------------------

But when i use My windows 7 Desktop with RTL8188CU

MY PC ==> RealTek RTL8188CU ==> OnePlus One (as HotSpot) ==> 4G Internet.

for internet and check internet speed i get

==================================================================

I have tried
1) updating RealTek RTL8188CU drivers on windows and windows says , drivers are latest.
check this screenshot https://prnt.sc/m6uow3
even though drivers date shows : 31 dec 2010

2) connecting RealTek RTL8188CU to different USB ports on the same PC

3) Device Manager -> RealTek RTL8188CU -> advanced -> Wireless Mode -> B/G/N
http://prntscr.com/m6uppj

================================================================

so what is causing slow speed on my windows 7 desktop ?

obviously RealTek RTL8188CU

1) Do i have to buy another WIFI adapter ? if yes then which one is best ? for handling 4G speeds

2) can this be fixed with latest realtek drivers ?

Thanks for your time.

my wifi dongle looks like this

Solution
Hi,

Some tips that might help:

1) Try a USB extender cable and get the dongle away from the computer.
2) You could also check to see if you select another channel to connect to on the phone's wifi. (not sure how this is possible on the oneplus one) Sometimes some channels are saturated with traffic of neighbour etc.
3) Check at what speed the dongle is connected on the networking icon in windows.

1) i am trying to find USB extender cable
2) i am in remote area, there are no wifi hotspots/routers in at least within 7-8 k.m. radius.
3) connection shows connected at 72 MBPS
please check this http://prntscr.com/m6v9n8

Thanks.

It is as if your USB dongle is working at USB 1 speeds on the laptop. Upgrading windows might also solve this issue, since I assume you are using the same dongle on your PC with more success. But generally the laptop should also have built in Wifi of some sort and its age could be the main factor in the issue.

Issue solved.

i remembered that it came with this small CD with drivers ., but my PC didnt had CD drive, so couple years back, i downloaded
RTL819xCU_AutoInstallPackage.zip from internet, i guess from RealTeck site.

so in old download folders, i found this RTL819xCU_AutoInstallPackage.zip
extracted it.
RTL819xCU_AutoInstallPackage >> (BV5)RTLWlanU_1021.3.0912.2012_UI_1.00.0199.SupportALL.L >> Setup.exe

Rebooted PC.

and when i check now.
after driver update, i am getting this

i know , its not much speed, but its more than 10 folds from last time.

Thanks for your time.

Ill update , if i find any newer drivers.

Right now my device manager shows driver date : 12-Sep-12

Thank you.
