What is External IP on my port forwarding page?

Hi,

I just had a post where I was having issues port forwarding on my new router. I got an answer really quick that helped me fix my problem. I had my local IP in the External IP section. I'm probably remembering this incorrectly, but I seem to remember always putting my local IP in both the Local IP and External IP section on other routers.

But I digress, I have a Ubee Cable Modem (not sure of the model, I can update that info once I get home) with a software version of 9.30.2210. This is what my port forwarding page looks like on my router: http://i.imgur.com/pNz7McJ.png. What does the External IP section do? I know what every other section in here means except External IP. I was told that it can be used to restrict specific WAN adresses. Does this mean that only the IP in that section can access the the port forwarding? I'm not entirely sure.

Thank you!

Solution
Usually that would be "ANY" if you want to allow any external to get to your hosts. If you know a specific IP address you want to be get in and no others, you could put that address in.

Ahh gotcha. Thank you so much!

Your lines which have a 192.168.x.y as the "external" IP are not doing anything.
You could also check to see if your Ubee has uPNP. Many times, having uPNP enabled prevents you from having to manually port forward.
