DDR is double data rate (rising and falling edge of electricity) RAM (random access memory). RAM is a temporary storage. It's used when you're using an application. For example, when you open up Microsoft Word, the data of program itself is stored in RAM. Once you close the application, the data is removed from RAM. DDRX is the revision or iteration. We started out with DDR and then moved to DDR2 and then 3 and now at 4.

GDDRX is temporary storage for a graphics card called VRAM (video RAM). Like standard system RAM, GDDRX is storage that a graphics card uses to store active data for applications like video games or 3D graphics. The number again is the iteration. The newest version is GDDR5.
