IMO, there is no "Independent OS". They are all hardware dependent. There may be versions of an OS available for multiple hardware platforms that have similar features and similar look-and-feel. BUT an application can't be moved between hardware platforms without recompiling. The recomiled software is a new copy of the original, not the same.
