what is lithography in CPUs?

So intel has 22nm in haswell and in ivy bridge
But sandy bridge has 32nm
And AMD'S CPUs have 32 to 28nm
But they're CPUs are weaker than Intels.

So does lithography affect in performance or is intel just really good at CPUs

but architecture is entirely different, and not related to that as far as i know

Intel , IMO, is better because they execute instructions more efficiently - they get more done with fewer clock cycles. The also are considerably more power efficient while doing the same/more work.

they have different architecture, and so far, for several years, intel tends to be better. at least for the higher end

the nm or nano meter is referring to the size of the transistors.
The smaller the better less heat and less power
and if you want to know more about how this effects real life performance and weather or not we will see smaller parts in the future you should read up on mores law
