[SOLVED] what is Optane

I was recently at Sam's Club and I noticed several desktop towers with 8GB+16GB of Optane. I've read several reviews of Optane and can't quite figure out what it is. Is it an SSD? Why would a computer with an i7-8700 class processor have a 16GB SSD.?

So what is it?

Long story short, it speeds up your HDD's. Speeds are faster then a standard 7200 HDD but not as fast as a SSD.
