Hi toms community,
I was going to buy two gigabyte gtx 980 ti XTREME but in the toms review there's a lot of people talking about some graphics card called pascal and saying it's worth waiting for; what is it? i'd assume it's a graphics card, when is it estimated to come out and is it worth waiting for?
thanks!

But if Nvidia follow previous releases there won't be a 980Ti replacement until next year. Both the 780Ti and 980Ti launched I think just under a year after the rest of the 7xx & 9xx series, my monies on a 1080Ti (or whatever it's called) hitting the shops at the end of Q1 2017

Its a two edge question. You obviously have a lot of dough to spend on graphics. I think its a safe bet that any new mid range cards will perform at least at the current level of 980tis, at the same approx. price. that has been the case for the past generations (iex. 970 is somewhere around the level of 780ti). Now if you want to grab the equivalent of the 980ti on pascal you will probably have to wait until like Q1-Q2 2017 .. but then again you are in the same boat waiting for the volta cards.

My logic would be that either

A) you can grab the 2 980ti's from GB right now. these are probably going to be the fastest gpus on the market of the maxwell generation, and you can rest assured that you bought the best of the current GPU line. downside: limited to DX12.1 capability. you will not get the full DX12 treatment that comes with pascal.

B) wait for pascal and grab whatever beats the current 980tis in price/performance. downside: these cards will get overbenched pretty fast as newer and newer cards keep popping up on the market.

to be honest you cant win it isnt called the PC master race for nothing, and the gpu market would crash. xD
