What is RAMDisk and do I need it?

When choosing my free games I got from buying an AMD GPU, AMD offered me RAMdisk software for 9 bucks, can anybody tell me exactly what this is?

Oh these programs have been around since windows 3.1 and dos it takes some hard drive space creates a ramdisk and speeds your system up or so it seems at the time nothing replaces real ram but for 9 bucks you really cant loose ..

Is there a downside? Does it degrade over time? Is it something I put on my SSD or HDD? What does it speed up exactly? Thank you.

Oh hell no opps I wouldn't install on your ssd that's already fast enough it don't degrade as far as I know back in the day I mean the old days when running windows 3.1 and dos some games wouldn't work so we had to go into dos because it didn't have enough ram for that game so we would run a code called memmaker and then the game would run its not something you need but its weather you want it.
