I have a 780ti and was wondering what the function of the gold contacts on the top left of the PCB is:

Those are the SLI bridge connector. Your graphics card most likely came with one of these.

SLI is a brand name for a multi-GPU technology developed by NVIDIA for linking two or more video cards together to produce a single output.

Those are for connecting two graphics card in SLI so that you can have two graphics cards in your computer at the same time working together
