what is the best core i5 processor socket 1155 for gaming ?

Solution

You would certainly see a performance boost with the i5, especially given that you are currently only running an old i3. The performance difference between an i5 and an i7 if you are only ever going to do gaming is not that great, however if you ever wanted to do things like music, photo or video creation/editing, then...

Indeed. I dont think 3570k can reach 4.8Ghz easy as my 2500k do.

Gigabyte PA 65 DU3 B3

Core i3 2100 3.1 GHz

Radeon HD 6670 vabor-X

Kingstone 4GB Ram

Thermaltake v3 450 Watt

it may be ajunk now , but i'm just wondering could i overclock ?

No, unfortunately not

can my current PSU handle the 3570k power its 77 watt

The i5 3570k is officially the best socket 1155 cpu and being a "k" variant it overclocks very well .. however im using a i5 3330 which when combined with a mid range gpu ( im using a HD6790 which still yeilds good performance ) you can expect sterling results
personally i would pair the i5 3330 with the R7 260X .... both these are inexpensive components within their ranges but can run the latest games on medium at 1920x1080 ...

The issue is the motherboard, you need one with a different chipset; P67, Z68, Z77, etc.

Well you cannot get Sandy Bridge 2500k anymore, I still have mine, kept as a spare, the only 1155 socket cpu would be the 3570k that is still on the consumer market.... Beware their is only one 1155 socket board still being sold, and its made by shitty AsRock......you can bet their all refurb's. Whatever you do, don't bother with a locked i3 like imo did above.......

There are dozens of different motherboards available from all kinds of places that support the Ivy Bridge chips, what the hell are you on about? As to ASRock boards being shitty, having owned over a dozen I would have to disagree with you, the extreme range from the Extreme 4 and upwards was pretty damned good.

so , what's your opinion with a Core i5 3340 and a radeon hd 6770 vabor - x in gaming
i'm now having a core i3 2100 and i'm considering an upgrade to the mentioned i5 3340
cause i can't find the 2500K and 3570k for retail now

well thats slightly better than my i5 3330 but not by a massive margin .... and the HD6770 isnt that different to my HD6790 ( except for the 128bit memory bus and a few mhz on the core ) ..... so yes the i5 3340 wont let you down and scores 6147 on passmark compared to 5902 for my i5 3330
anything around the 6000 passmark score is decent and as i mentioned the "k" variants are only worth buying if you plan on overclocking ... however trust me when i say you wont need to with the i5 3340 !

I have to agree. Had no issues with ASRock, decent boards IMO.

i want to upgrade my i3 2100
and ican't find the i5 2500k or hte i5 3750k
the only available is
the i5 3340 and i7 3770 k

if i purchased the i5 will i have a good performance
or the i7 will be a better selection

That would all depend upon your budget. If money is not too big an issue then personally I'd get the i7, mostly for its extra oomph.

so the i5 3340 will not make the performance boost

You would certainly see a performance boost with the i5, especially given that you are currently only running an old i3. The performance difference between an i5 and an i7 if you are only ever going to do gaming is not that great, however if you ever wanted to do things like music, photo or video creation/editing, then the i7 would easily out perform the i5. That is why I said that if budget is not too big an issue then going for the i7 would, in my opinion, be a better choice. If budget IS the priority then the i5 would be the sensible choice.
