So I want to upgrade my CPU and RAM, not in any specific order, my mobo specs are
Dell 084J0R Ivy Bridge LGA 1155 with i3 3220 3.3 GHz. Chipset Revision 09 and southbridge model p75/b75. I want to upgrade to an i7 3770, as that is the best i7 processor for LGA 1155(besides the K version) But according to this forum thread http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19613720 my machine(which was originally an inspiron 660) can't handle any i7. I have the same mobo as the OP. Is this true? Can my mobo not handle an i7? And this post
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19535544 says someone with the same mobo has 12 gb of ram. I have seen lots of sources saying that it can only handle 8 GB, but i want to upgrade to 16 gb if it is possible. Can anyone clarify if my upgrades are possible? Please someone help!

Tricky. B75 chipset should support any and all 3rd gen chips including the i7-3770k. Wouldn't be able to overclock it though.

Unless Dell did something in the BIOS it should support it.

As to the guy with 12GB, they probably went through a few different motherboard revisions. So he may have something slightly different as compared to Dell's official documentation.

Do you know that from experience? Or did you get that from an intel website or something. Please provide a website stating that if you can :)

So do you think i should just buy the i7 3770 and install it and see if it works? My power supply is a 430w and i read that dell says my mobo can't support i7 cuz of the power requirements, but thats not a problem lol

They would be referring to the power the motherboard can supply to the CPU. Though since they support i5 processors that shouldn't be an issue.

I am not recommending you try it unless you can be certain the processor can be returned without a re-stocking fee.
