I used to have a lot of fun with the old Athlon's... the lead pencil trick.. untill i melted everything in my machine.

Easiest processors are the recent ones, Q6600, Q9450/Q9550 are really simple.

they may be simple but are they the best lol
clearly the best results, but are they the best overclock ratio, we have had 400% i doubt that will be beaten

Hmm.. I answered going by the title of this thread

"what is the best ever processor to overclock, your views"

The -best- overclocker I myself have used are the one listed in my (outdated) forum profile.

The AMD Optron 146 came out of the box @ 2Ghz and with Ram,MB,Chipset(s) and CPU on 100% stock voltage would do 3Ghz+ or a full 50% OC.
Some people with fluid coolers would boost voltages and push 3.4/3.5Ghz+ or a true full 75% OC.

Just befor they stopped makeing the socket 939 MB's and CPU's you could pick the Optron 146's up for as little as $48 USD!

+1.

The Celeron Coppermine 566 on the ASUS CUSL2 .. (One of The Best MB in a long while).. . Change the FBS to 100 and boom 850Mhz.....

IF you are going to buy a new processor for OC then:

AIR Cooling Intel 45nm CPU. The E8XXX and the Q9X50 are great with air cooling or AMD Black Editions

Water Cooling: most Dual and Quad cores and the Extreme/ Black Editions

LN2: any... 😉

if only i had a interest in computers from an earlier age i might actualy know about these processors lol

I will do my research and find out some more

thanks for the replies

I have to agree. If simplicity and shear speed make it a great overclocker my Q9550 has been my best experience.

This thing was way too simple. It took about 20 minutes to get to 3800 with a relatively inexpensive motherboard(p5e) and cooler (ACF7P). She booted at 1.30 and but to pass prime and Intel burn test I finished at 1.35 which reads as 1.32 and droops to 1.3 under load.

Basically a middle of the road proc and board with a cheap cooler and I have a 1ghz upgrade and a 1m superpi of 12.387. And this is all with c1e enabled.

4ghz is what i would like to achieve with my next cpu, but im not sure what cpu i will end up buying. i know 1 thing for sure i am going to Waite for, the release of nehlam before i upgrade, to save a bit of money

thanks for the reply

Yea it's possible for a suicide run. Notice the 1.9v+ voltage. That thing would last less than a day at that voltage. The post even said it BSOD'd on him before he could even run 3dMark. It sure makes for a nice screenshot though!

lol . . . . . who cares, that would be the fastest days/month of your life. i wonder what the processor can reach stable.

BRAGGING RIGHTS i believe is the correct term

As a package, the ABIT BP6 motherboard + 2 x 366MHz Celerons...

Whacked the FSB to 100MHZ, and had a dual CPU 550MHz rig for very little cash, with Win NT4.0 - it was faster then any standard high end system of the time....

Stunner!
