It depends on the game. Second gen core i cpu's made a decent performance gain over first gen. Since then the performance gains have been more subtle. A stock 2500k vs a stock 7600k in watchdogs 2, the min fps difference is 14.4fps and average fps difference is 25.8 fps. When the 2500k is oc'd to 4.5ghz, the 7600k stock has a min fps lead of 10.8fps and average fps lead of 17.3fps.
In bf1, the 7600k stock has a min fps lead of 20fps and average fps lead of 16.8fps (if the 2500k is oc'd) or 25.2fps lead if the 2500k is stock.
TW Warhammer, the 7600k has a min fps lead of around 10fps, average fps the 7600k has a lead of 50-73fps over the 2500k depending if it's stock or oc'd to 4.5ghz.
