What is the difference Window XP Professional and Window X..

I just purchase a new computer and it had windows xp home edition. I need
microsoft office, excel, powerpoint, etc. Which one should I purchase

Each one of those applications have their own functions, so it is up to you
what you need to do.

Do you need to make documents, and basic presentations, then you only need
Word.

Do you need to make graphic presentation, and animations? Then you need
PowerPoint.

Do you need to create and maintain extensive, and complex spreadsheets? Then
you need excel.

If you need all three, then you need (in the least) Office 2003 Standard (if
you want the newest version).

BY the way, having XP Home, or Pro will have no bearing on what Office
application you need, as they are not part of, nor have ever been part of
any Windows operating system; they are separately purchased and installed MS
applications.

Neither XP Pro or Home Edition include the programs you mention. You must
purchase MS Office, which includes Excel and PowerPoint, separately.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. By "which one" do you mean
Window XP Professional or Window Xp Home?

If so, the answer is "neither." Neither Windows XP Professional,
Windows XP Home, nor any other version of Windows has ever
included Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, or any other
significant application software. Such programs have to be
bought, either by themselves or as part of Microsoft Office.
If your previous computer, running an older version of Windows,
came with these, it was because the vendor who sold it bundled
them as part of the package he sold you, not because that version
of Windows came with it. Some, but not all, vendors do the same
with Windows XP.

Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,..) is a collection
of applications (based on which suite that you choose) for word processing,
presentations, and so on.

It is separated from the operating system, such as Windows XP Pro and
Windows XP Home as mentioned.

The main difference between XP Pro and Home edition is the network functions
and for most SOHO users who only need simple network functions, such as
sharing files and folders, Internet connection, Home edition is sufficient.
