lame, lame question, i know.
for some reason, tho...when it comes to the controller...i always choke.

so, i have the intel ich8r/ich9r/ich10r/do sata raid controller on my desktop.
older mobo...asus p5e.

the intel site is always a bit messy for me.
no java installed...so, no auto check.

is there a newer version of the controller compatible with my rig?
under device manager i have driver version 8.6.2.1012 dated 4/8/09.

i would just be interested in the driver...not the utility. if i can get away with it.

i almost always read some sad story of how the wrong driver version messed something up.
so, before i go thinking i'm upgrading (i currently have no problems that i'm aware of necessitating the upgrade) i want to verify there is something worth upgrading TO.

thanks, everyone...
thanks!

I agree with Phillip Corcoran with regards to regular/normal/average pc users, which is 99% of users. "If it ain't broke then don't fix it". :)
Updating to the latest version more than likely won't have any real-world benefits if you're not having any problems to begin with.

For remaining 1% (like myself) who are hobbyists/system builders then of course you want to have the latest BIOS version, the latest software drivers, the 2nd Tuesday of every month you're updating Windows, etc. 😀 😀

If your RAID controller is working okay with the existing driver, leave it alone.

Golden rule where any driver is concerned - - don't update it just because an update is available, it is not compulsory, nor is it even advisable if the current driver works fine.

Only update a driver if it fixes a specific problem you are experiencing.

i don't disagree with you...not for a second.
everything's been functioning as it ought to.

i have to admit, however, to having a desire to find out if there's been a useable update for that pretty old controller.
figured there was a decent chance things had been updated.
anyone know?

Download and install the latest drivers (Rapid Storage Technology or Matrix Storage Manager depending on your OS) from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Software+Products&ProductLine=Chipset+Software&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Rapid+Storage+Technology+(Intel%C2%AE+RST)
