after purchasing and/or building their system to make sure everything is running according to specs? Hardware checks I mean...

So, of course, in the case where one purchased a finished system or a laptop, I imagine confirming that your specs match what was advertised is a must, I sometimes forget to do that. What else? Run a bunch of tests? Which ones? I heard one should check if some cores are misbehaving or overheating compared to other cores. Is this accurate? I heard this can be done with a variety of tests, one in particular called Cinebench (although there must be others). Not sure when to decide if one of the cores is faulty or not though.

What else should one check for, before starting to tweak their system? I imagine right after the purchase is the best time to check for issues to then send back the system to the retailer or manufacturer if one thinks the system is faulty.

Thanks

You shouldn't necessarily need to run tests, etc. immediately after assembling or receiving a PC except if you are benchmarking via Cinebench or otherwise.

There is a difference between running diagnostics, etc. and benchmarking for performance metrics.

If so, not enough research was done before purchase of either parts/manufacturer/company to provide peace of mind of reliability of products being used.

Very comprehensive set of stability tests even with free OCCT.

Stability comes first before performance.

I would run Task Manager, Resource Monitor, and Process Explorer (Microsoft, free).

Use each tool but only one tool at a time.

Objective simply to view and get an overall sense about what is running and how the system is performing.

Capture and print a few screen shots for future reference.

Do that before starting to install apps, utilities, etc..

Then if peformance falters or some other issue arises you may be able to identify the culprit.
