Recently I purchased a Dell S2415H monitor, I noticed that the outer surface of the monitor is something with a plastic feel. I guess this should not be the screen, since the bezel is covered under the plastic layer as well. So what purpose does this layer serve? Is it the panel coating or some polarizing filter or simply something that protects the screen?

No it's definitely not the wrapping, and I don't think there is a way to remove it. I'll try to find some pics or take a photo of my monitor.

I hope this photo tells something. Do you see the shadow on the inner layer? It seems there is a small distance between the surface and the inner layer(which I guess is the screen glass).

Can't tell anything from that image, if you want to see if it's the protective wrap, check from the outside in, if the sheet is floating (not flush against the outside edge), it's likely just the protective film.

It might just be easier to call dell and ask what7s up with it.
