What is the performance level of GT 540m?

I am planning to buy a laptop and mid ranged laptops usually have Nvidia gt 520m-555m video cards. I want to know how they perform.
How do they compare to a desktop 9500GT 1GB? (I used 9500GT for comparison because thats the video card I have on my old desktop)
