I know. The price is too high, but the specs were so close to this case. I couldn't resist posting them...

I cant believe you guys bought into this obvious scam. I have some swamp land and a bridge down here in Florida if any of you are interested. Get real.....

As much as I want to know, I don't think he should post the name.

People are going to buy from that retailer JUST to call intel for a QX6700.

Perhaps Intel will issue a cease & desist, so the OP can post the name of the retailer. I would imagine the C&D order would be the first step Intel takes.

Ok people .. I’ll lay this down plain and simple. YES, Intel has prohibited me in 2 factors here:

1. I am NOT to disclose any information about the Online Retailer.
2. I am NOT to disclose any information as to my contact at Intel Corporation.

Now I am sure that most of you can understand this. As much as I would like to disclose this information so that other people do not get burned as I did .. I just cannot.

Honestly, I don’t give a flying hoot what you think. I know what I received from Intel .. and that’s all that matters to me.

Sure enough, I posted pictures of the package received, if you don’t believe me in regards to what I received, then that’s your problem, not mine.

I wasn’t watching the forumz lastnight at all, I got home, took pictures, posted .. and then went to town finishing up the building of my system which now consists of:

Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (Edited this, entered wrong CPU)
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
2GB Corsair Dominator TWIN2X2048-8500CSD
2 x ATI Radeon X1950 XTX 512MB
2 x WD Raptor 150GB 10,000rpm
ThermalTake ToughPower 750W
ThermalTake ARMOR VA8003BWS 25cm Side Fan

I was having fun installing Windows XP SP2 on 1 drive and Windows VISTA ULTIMATE on the other drive.

As for the monies spent on the original so called OEM Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800, I have not at this time started the disbute. I work for the financial institution in which I charged the original CPU to, I have been in contact with our internal investigations already .. so that claim will be forth coming.

Wow, then you DID get an ES after all! The QX6800 has not yet been officially launched, and won't be for several months.
Anyway, you should be very happy for the QX6700 on your pictures - you certainly deserve it after going through all the trouble to nail the fraudulent online retailer.

LordGeek,

No reason to get testy, this just wouldn't be the first time someone has tried to pull one over on forum readers for whatever reason. I don't understand why you have any reason to be upset with me for simply questioning things such as this. All I said, is I would like to see a picture of the actual IHS, maybe with that nifty lordgeek sign you made up. And maybe a CPU shot. That's it, I don't think I was asking to much, no one ever beleives anything without CPUZ verification. And, as I said in my post, I was not meaning to question your credibilty at all, it's just plain and simple, I have not seen you around here much before, and therefore, don't think I should blindly trust everything you post. Do you find some fallacy in my thought process?

wes

Edit: I don't think I am asking to much here, I am sure you have heard of viral marketing. I admit, this would be one helluva elaborate hoax. I hope you are able to see things from where I stand.

LG, I am curious as to what uber-powerful tool or application you will be utilizing the beast that Intel enhanced your life with.

Will it be the core of the Empire's new DEATH STAR?

Will it cure AIDS?

Will it have such low network ping times that time will reverse?

Will you be editing the next CLERKS movie on it?

I'm guessing it is hard for you to sleep with such weighty issues on your mind. 8)

LordGeek,

Thanks so much for all the information you provided. This was really an interesting situation. I understand and respect the two above items and I hope that everyone else will too.

Which begs the question: what does Intel do with the ESes then? Does Intel call them back in at a later date? Do the OEMs/mobo mfrs/review sites simply keep them as a free gift? I'm guessing the latter as the chips probably get very abused by OC-ing reviewers and free chips makes Intel look better to the reviewers. Not that it's intended to (I hope) bias them, but more to generate good will or simply not make Intel look like a stingy company, recalling in its ESes.
Used samples are either destroyed, given to employees, or used in free systems that intel donates to various institutions.

Im totally with wes... BTW, yesterday I bought a 7600, it was an ES, and now nvidia send me the 8950 GTX-X2

Thx for sharing your experience, and its good to see you got a compensation for all the problems

nice PC you have now (Y)

Ninja,

I know I am being a bit skeptical, but, I don't think what I asked is any more than what is normally expected. I am not trying to flame, or anything of the sort, just making a rather simple request imo, in the least offensive way I could think of at the time. That's all really....

wes

You know what ninja, your right, I will just forget about this entire thread. Personally it would be cool if Intel really did what geek claims that they did. The things interesting to me is just the timing of how things happend during the entire process and the fact that he has a new account. Just seems like to many things are conveniently left out for whatever reason to keep this story from being able to be verified to an extent that would satisfy me. Well, I am off, thanks for setting me straight ninja, and reminding me asking for proof probably would just lead to flaming and such. Oh well, seemed pretty simple to me at the time, but, it just never turns out that way

wes

Well, you can already guess that I believe him. All the times I've had to deal with Intel corp directly, this is exactly how they go about their business. :)

There have been too many locked threads due to simple (or misguided) questions sparking hell. I'm getting tired of it. As long as you reasons were clean, its all good. Peace man.

a new account? I can go to frys to and snap a pic of a processor too

I'm with you weskurtz81 this post gets the Xmas turkey of the year award!

I did a little research using my engineering version of Google and found out that Stalliontek.com seems to sell a lot of engineering cpus according to price watch ratings. Take a look. I could see the company getting in trouble buy why would intell send him a brand cpu for free...........what happened to these countless poor souls that had the same thing happen to them? Did they all get a free cpu too?

Here is some more info from Intell. This looks like the contract.

It's a shame to see you holding that awesome system back with X1950XTXs. 🙁

So they can be given to employees, hmm. How is that done? Is there some totem pole system where certain people get first dibs on them and then the chips move down the hierarchy until somebody takes it? Is it a first-come, first-serve? Or a lottery? Or is it a cyclical system where you give out the chips to people alphabetically until everybody has gotten one before, then start again?

If it's not one of the latter ones, that must make for some ugly intra-office competition for a really good ES like an X6800.
