Intel is actually a good company to customers who are honest.. report that chip to them (the serial number will determine who was supposed to be responsible for it), and Intel will likely give you a fantastic deal - likely a retail X6800/QX6700 for free for reporting the company breaking the agreement for having an ES..

Thats the smartest idea...do it.

As others have said before you should have never sent the retailer their chip back. That is like giving a murderer his or hers murder weapon back so they can hide it and deny whatever you claim. You would have been better off blackmailing the retailer you purchased the chip from for 2 x 8800gtxs for sli, a qx6700, asus striker, and some dominator ram. If the retailer wouldn’t comply with your demand you could have just sent the chip to Intel with all receipts and proof that you purchased the chip from the “retailer”.

After all this build up, if Intel doesnt give him a "kiss" they're gonna wind up with a bunch of THG forums egg on their face.

You reading this Intel?

I hope they do, remember they dont lose anything if 1 of their billion of customers doesnt get satisfied.

blackmailing = bad

Maybe so, but what is worse, black mailing or deliberate misrepresentation for monetary gain? Plus selling something that cannot legally be sold?

Regardless, I am waiting patiently for this drama to unfold.
Here Here! :wink:

Uhh, you guys know that what is being discussed is extortion, which is illegal and could result in jail time, right?

Also eager to see what happens...

There are known e-tailers (such as Stalliontek and Microcenter) found via Pricewatch that are known to sell engineering c2d samples as OEM. People have complained to Intel about them and their BBB rating obviously sucks (well MC does have somewhat of a rating.) I'm rather surprised you got a -full- refund from them so you better check if they really gave you the refund in full without any restocking fees etc.

You should always compare reselleratings and BBB ratings and make your own value judgment from that. For example, I'd be hesitant to trust ZipZoomFly compared to Newegg solely based on their BBB rating. Really, it's buyer beware for online shopping.

Nothing to see here....move along....move along :wink:

Nothing. I've ordered from ZZF before. If you'll read my full sentence again: "For example, I'd be hesitant to trust ZipZoomFly compared to Newegg solely based on their BBB rating." I was providing an example where you should balance the ratings and information from the BBB and resellerratings.

Intel should give us all x6800's just for being so kind as to guide the OP in what to do. In exchange we can all bow allegience to the Intel flag. For life.

Excited as well. Pwn the e-tailer in the face, b4-6 style.

I purchased this Intel CPU from a online retailer .. it was to be a Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 OEM !! It however registers as a Core 2 Duo E6800 !! The specs as to 2.93GHz and Cache of 4MB .. but the marking (branding) on the chip are not normal .. here are the pics .. can anyone tell me what the he11 thay sent me ?

Some sites indicate that Intel actually has a roadmap for the E6800(along with the E6x50 CPUs with 1333MHz FSB), which will be the top mainstream line CPU and have mainstream prices.
