what is windows assessment and deployment kit

Hi I found this program in my programs and features ( windows assessment and deployment kit ) not sure what it does but can I remove it or do I need it?

Hi thanks for reply I was having trouble with an update yesterday but when I turn my vpn off it went through, so should I keep it or uninstall it?

you can uninstall it. if windows ever needs it then it will just install automatically again
