Hello,I know very little about computers. I have some experience in building my own computer, but I know very little about a lot of technical stuff. I am planning on changing on my CPU and I was wondering what kind of socket I have.

So, currently I have ASUSTek M2A-VM motherboard. On the ASUS website (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2AVM/#specifications) it says that it supports AM2/AM2+ CPU. Does this mean my motherboard CPU socket is AM2+ and I can buy AM3 CPU?

Thank you very much

I see....thank you for the answer. However, since I have little to no idea about bios update, I do have some questions.

1. Is bios update automatic?
2. If it is a manual update, is it tricky to do?
3. do you think using AM3 CPU will damage the am2+ socket?

Thank you

thank you for the link. Just reading through the intro, but I was wondering how do you know
if you need the BIOS update? Also do I update the BIOS before upgrading the CPU or after?

Thank you very much for your help

update before. Its a bit risky i must say unless your mobo has dual bios.

Right. So one last question 😀 I found the ASUSTEK driver download site and it has updates for BIOS
apparently. i checked my BIOS version from CPU-Z and its 1501 (almost 4 years old). These are numerous
updates. Can I just download these updates? Also, do I have to download all updates one by one or
just the latest?

Here is the site: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=M2A-VM&p=1&s=24\

Thanks again.
