Question What kind of SSD should I get?

I’m almost out of storage and was looking at new ones but I’m not sure if I need a specific type. I have a mag b560 tomahawk wifi mobo and it has a spot for a lightning gen4 m.2 but do I need that kind? Also I’m looking for a 2-4tb ssd. Thanks.

2-4TB PCIe Gen 4 is expensive.

That board has 6x SATA ports and 3x M.2 ports.

Unless you know you need a PCIe Gen 4, you don't.

Even if you buy a gen 3 m.2 drive, it will still work just fine, as the gen 4 slots are backwards compatible. Obviously, unless feel that you must absolutely have the added speed of the gen 4, then save yourself some $$ for now, at least until the prices come down a bit...

I use it for gaming and I have a sabrent rocket q NVME PCIe m.2 2280 SSD

For a game system, you do NOT need a Gen 4 SSD.

Leave your current one as is, and add a new drive.
Either M.2 NVMe (Gen 3) or a SATA III drive.
Depending on budget.

You will see basically zero difference.
