Hello everyone,

I am looking to purchase a new monitor this holiday and have stumbled upon a concern. I have a budget roughly around $500, with a GTX 970 i wish to upgrade to 1440p but not sure of the panel. I am currently looking at 2 1440p monitors and 1 1080p.

(1)The BenQ XL2730Z a 27" 1440p TN panel monitor with up to 144hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, also listed on www.newegg.com for under $550.
(2) BenQ GW2765HT a 27" 1440p IPS panel monitor up to 60hz refresh rate and 4ms response time, also listed on www.newegg.com for roughly $400.

(3) Lastly the BenQ XL2411Z a 24" 1080p TN panel monitor with up to 144hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, also listed on www.amazon.com for under $400.

Now considering the monitors, the games i mostly play are a mix of FPS, RTS, MMO and RPG such as CSGO, The Witcher 3, World of Warcraft, Dota, COD, Starcraft 2. My questions pertain to what would be an ideal monitor for this type of use, and would a 144hz refresh rate really make a difference. Also if i run 1440p on ultra settings will the GTX 970 handle the high refresh rate of the TN panel, if not should i stick to the IPS with 60 hz? I am very particulate and wish to upgrade to 1440p for a sharper image, but from many reviews i have heard that TN panels are far inferior to IPS. Should i not look into a 1440p monitor with this graphics card, and should i just stick to 1080p? Lastly can 60hz with 4ms really be a dramatic difference to 144hz at 1ms? Some friends say it does not while some reviews say it does. Please help some advice would be great, and i am not only looking at Benq monitors it just so happens i like these 3.

Thanks!

For that use, my vote would be the IPS 1440p. The witcher is going to be the only one that struggles a bit at 1440p.

However if you are really into CSGO, competitive players get an advantage from 144Hz so maybe option 3 if you are FPS heavy.

I would rule option 1 out as you cannot get above 60Hz on anything with 1440p with your current GTX 970 GPU
