I am looking at buying a 78003dx and I would like some input on motherboards. Since the 3dx chip cant be overclocked and it's frequency is low, does it need a x670 mobo power delivery system? I'm curious if I could get away with a b650/b650e board and never tell a difference.
Also, about the "e". Is that really needed? Do I need my PCIe slot to run at 5.0? There is little difference form 3.0 to 4.0, so does that mean there is less of a difference than 5.0?
The system will be used mainly for gaming, but I also run a plex server on the machine and use handbrake from time to time. So I will use the extra threads.
Any other advice is welcome. The rig I need to update has a 1950x and I am having a problem with the mobo. We use it as my son's gaming rig and a home media server. My thoughts are to purchase the 7800cdx for my rig and give him my 8700k as a hand-me-down..
I've though about trying to save some cash and just getting a 58003dx, but it seems foolish to buy into a dead platformm.
