What option is better for power usage, and TV life?

Hi I have TV + monitor set up. I would to save power by not having them both on all of the time, is it better to turn the TV, on and off often or to switch between one monitor set-up living TV with the black screen that only says HDMI2 in the corner. Will turning it on, and off reduce the life of TV? Does it take allot of power?

We will need make and model#s of the devices in question to answer this accurately but in general, turn off the larger one to save power. Keep in mind that cfl vs led backlighting makes a huge difference in power consumption and may reverse the above advice depending one what you actually have.

I have Sony kdl-40p5500, it is lcd. Monitor is on almost all of the time HP LP2065.
