What path name to get to History entries?

What is the correct path name to get to the entries in the History
folder?

The best I can manage is to get to a user's History folder by using
the following path:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\History

I would like to be able to go deeper and somehow include in the path
the folder called 'Today'. And then include the folder called 'My
Computer'.

However, judging by the symbol against 'My Computer' I wonder if I
should be looking in the registry for this information?

Can anyone tell me more about this. Thank you.

You're going to have trouble because it's not an actual folder with URL shortcuts; that's just the view that explorer provides.

Use a command prompt window to navigate to:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\History

and then type the command "dir /a"

You'll see only a desktop.ini file and a subfolder: history.IE5

"cd history.IE5" followed by "dir /a" will give you a listing similar to this:

01/31/2005 03:44 AM <DIR> .

each of those subfolders contains a single index.dat file which, if you examine in a text editor, will contain URLs amidst lots of spaces and nonsense :). Try looking at the index.dat file in the folder with the latest creation date and you should recognize some URLs from today's history. Not sure how one would go about parsing this to get useful information.

Good Luck,
Keith

None. I tried 5 different methods to open this folder. Everything works until it has to open. Then it stops. I've walked the paths, I walked the verbs.

Also vbs crashes without issuing an error.

I was a great cricket lover (used to watch even the English County matches
in full, and the W.Indies - Calypso series ). That was during 1996-2000,
then lost interest in counties, but I watch big events especialy if India /
Aus / Pakistan participate.
