I have had a MacBook for years that stopped working well about a year ago. Luckily, I had been regularly backing everything up on an external hard drive and had a work computer that I continued to use instead. My MacBook has just been sitting around unused for about a year. I would like to now buy another laptop, ideally a PC, and want to make sure I purchase one that will be able to accept files from my external hard drive that came from the Mac OS.

What PCs should I be sure to consider or avoid, if transferring the files from Mac to PC via an external hard drive?

Thank you!

Solution
if the files are on your mac and you have a clean eternal drive/usb stick you can format in FAT, you ca follow this:

If your external drive is already NFS formatted, you'll need a specialized software to read it in windows, but it can be done, for free:

for a laptop for just basic, no gaming use, you can go muuuch cheaper.

this is as good option: only $559. it is capable of lightweight gaming

an even simpler one for $349

Thanks -- my main question though is not what computer I should buy generally, but rather: will I have issues uploading the info from my external hard drive to a PC, if I had a Mac in the past? And if so, what should my considerations be in buying a PC that will be able to accept the info (from the Mac OS) from the hard drive?
