What prevents programs from opening

I have installed a Canon scanner. When I try to open the software that comes with it, it runs in thew background but doesn't open on the desk top.

I have installed a Canon scanner. When I try to open the software that comes with it, it runs in thew background but doesn't open on the desk top.

Is it running minimized - Visible on the taskbar ?
Click on it - maximize window and exit.
